ENC – Engineering Noise Control

ENC is comprehensive software divided into seven modules, corresponding to various sections of the text book Engineering Noise Control by Prof Colin Hansen and David A Bies (fourth edition).

  • Fundamentals, subjective response to sound and noise criteria (chapters 1, 2, 3 and 4)
  • Sound power of sources and outdoor sound propagation (chapters 5 & 6)
  • Room acoustics and sound absorption (chapter 7, Appendices 3, 4 and 5)
  • Transmission loss, enclosure design, barriers (indoor and outdoor) and pipe wrappings (chapter 8)
  • Dissipative and reactive muffler design and duct breakout noise calculations (chapter 9)
  • Vibration isolation and damping (chapter 10)
  • Sound power estimates for specific source types (chapter 11)

ENC has been developed by Prof Colin Hansen, University of Adelaide in Australia, the author of many books about noise and vibration control, active noise cancellation etc. (The picture shows the second edition)

By a right-click in the subprograms there is immediate info about the background to the calculation and reference to chapter and page in the book. Below you see an example about sound radiaition from a vibrating plate.

The seven modules are presented in the brochure that you can download below.

ENC is unlocked with a hardware USB-dongle. The software can be installed on unlimited number of computers, but the dongle has to be moved. There is also a network version available, where ENC and the dongle is installed on one of the computers on the network, normally the server. ENC can be operated from all computers connected to the network up to a limited number of users.

You can find more info about ENC on the developers website , www.causalsystems.com
